Volunteer and Live in a Buddhist Temple
Teach English to Monks, young boys and the community.
Learn first-hand the spiritual beliefs, traditions, and practices of Buddhism when you volunteer to teach English to monks, young children. Travel to beautiful Sri Lanka and learn about Buddhist practices while engaging in important cultural exchange. In addition, considering the location of Sri Sudharmalaya Temple, you will be able to teach English to the community as well, and help them find their way with the tourists in Galle.

Helping out in the domestic work.
The work can range from making food to washing clothes, cleaning, or preparing for the daily rituals. During festivals, there will be various events where helping hands are required. There might even be a change of plans at the last minute so you will have to be proactive and dynamic in managing these events. This will teach you a lot about hard work and the lifestyle of the monks. Also, you will learn to work in a team and manage events during events. Also, the monks will teach their practices and values, which is worth noting. At the end of the day, you will most certainly get a sense of achievement which will only boost your volunteering spirit.
Have an Impact
Buddhist monks live a life of poverty as a sign of following Buddhist vows of owning nothing. This means that everything monks possess and consume must come to them as a gift. Providing donations is one of the best ways a layperson can support monks and their poor and health-threatening life conditions. Those children, often as young as seven years, also rely only on gifts starting from food donations, through books and personal items and finishing with money to improve their living conditions. Since covid hit hard the Sri Lankan society, leaving many local people without any sources of income for over a year, help from international supporters is sought after. Many areas of the roof are destroyed and the water is leaking during the rainy weather. Sometimes the water is leaking so abundantly that monks have trouble cleaning it and controlling it. Sleepless nights due to these increasing problems are a norm. Lack of funds and local support caused by the covid crisis does not allow monks to renovate it, therefore request help with this burning problem.
